Growing up, my mom put a lot of emphasis on the way we dress up and how we carry ourselves. She herself was always the most chic woman in the room. People would talk about her unique style and admire the way she puts together an outfit; the colors, the fit, the fabrics and the accessories that bring it all together.
To my beautiful mom, the chicest woman I have ever even known. I love you and I miss you. Your sense of unique style was truly remarkable.
While many people regard fashion as a vain and superficial detail in life, I have cultivated an unapologetic love for fashion, individualized style, and everything beauty. And I still live by what I learned from her.

Six lessons my mom taught me about clothes
Now, I have to say that, when we were younger, these lessons were did not always feel like the advice we wanted to hear. But as we got already, we started to appreciate each and every lesson. While there’s nothing groundbreaking about these, I feel that they do provide a mental framework when getting ready:
- What we wear has a great impact on how we perceive ourselves, and also how others perceive us, making style truly significant.
- Style is one of the strongest forms of communication and self-expression. Use stylish choices wisely.
- It’s disrespectful to show up underdressed, yet it’s not always better to overdress. Dress right for the occasion, with the right style.
- Fashionable does not necessarily mean flashy or loud, although nothing is wrong with that, fashion can also mean simple and subtle, or strong and powerful, as long as it is intentional.
- Nothing beats the impact of a clean, simple, well-fitted outfit on your mental state. Dressing up in your own style can be a form of therapy.
- When in doubt, stick to classics. Otherwise, play with fashion and experiment with new styles, be creative, have fun, and don’t take it too seriously.
What about you? Do you have any lessons which you have acquired from someone you admire over the years? I’d like to hear from you!
Love,
